Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Brown Butter Glaze

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 22–28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Meanwhile, prepare the glaze by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from the heat and whisk in the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until smooth.

Pour the warm brown butter glaze over the slightly cooled donut bars and spread evenly. Let the glaze set before slicing into bars.

Serve fresh and enjoy these rich, old-fashioned donut bars with a cup of coffee or cold milk.
