Buttermilk Sweet Potato Pie

This Buttermilk Sweet Potato Pie is rich, creamy, and full of warm Southern flavor. Sweet potatoes, buttermilk, brown sugar, and fragrant spices come together in a buttery pie crust for a comforting dessert that is perfect for holidays and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 medium sweet potatoes)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F. Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Add the melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until the filling is creamy and evenly combined.

Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.

Pour the sweet potato filling into the prepared pie crust and smooth the top.

Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center has only a slight jiggle.

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack. The filling will continue to set as it cools.

For the best texture, chill the pie for at least 1 hour before slicing.

Serving

Slice and serve chilled or at room temperature. For an extra-special dessert, top each slice with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
